Dr. Thet Ko Ko was born in Burma in the era of dictatorship and one-party authoritarian system in 1970s. He was in his teens when the historic 1988 pro-democracy movement took place. As a first-year medical student, he took part in the widespread demonstrations in the streets of Rangoon. This was when he gained first-hand experience of the brutal way the Burmese military suppresses dissent and opposition.

He left Myanmar in the year 2000 to continue his career as a medical doctor in United Kingdom. He enjoys the freedom and opportunities provided by his adoptive country and achieving career progression and professional fulfilment. His qualifications are MBBS, MRCP (UK), MRCP (Endocrinology) and FRCP (Edin). He is currently workings as a Consultant (Specialist) in National Health Service, UK.

Although he has been in the UK for more than two decades now, he has never stopped supporting the cause of freedom and democracy in Myanmar. He has done social activism to get voter engagement among the Burmese community in the UK during the transition years of 2012 to 2020. Following the military’s seizure of power in February, he has been heavily involved in the Spring Revolution, an organic movement of the people in opposition to military rule. He has developed and maintained an extensive social network among the overseas Myanmar community. He has earned the trust and support of his compatriots by being earnest and sincere. He has also been working as a Representative of the National Unity Government to UK since September 2021.
