Union Minister of Foreign Affairs of the National Unity Government of Myanmar, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung, undertook official visits to the United Kingdom and the United States of America in February 2023. During the visit, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with senior government officials, including Foreign Ministers, Deputy Foreign Minister, and MPs of the United Kingdom and the United States of America. It was the first time H.E Daw Zin Mar Aung undertook an official visit to the United Kingdom and the second time to the United States of America.
On 6 February 2023, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with Secretary of State for Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Affairs, The Rt Hon James Cleverly, at the office of Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs. H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung expressed her gratitude for imposing new rounds of sanctions by the United Kingdom and UK leadership in the United Nations Security Council.
H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung also met with UK Members of Parliament. On 6 February 2023, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with Labour Member of Parliament and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Group on Burma, Rushanara Ali. They discussed several different topics, including minority people’s affairs.
On 6 February 2023, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with Labour Member of Parliament and Shadow Minister for Asia and the Pacific, Catherine West. They discussed how the UK Parliament could support the democratic movement of Myanmar and more humanitarian aid.
H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung continued her official visit to the United States of America and met with senior government officials.
On 13 February 2023, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with the Under Secretary for Civilian Security, Democracy, and Human Rights of the United States, Uzra Zeya, who attended the opening ceremony of the office of the National Unity Government of Myanmar at Washington, D.C.
On 14 February 2023, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung met with the Deputy Secretary of State, Wendy Sherman, who welcomed the opening of the office of NUG at Washington, D.C., and underlined US commitment to the alliance of democracy and ethnic leaders, justice for all atrocities, and promised to continue to increase pressure on the military junta to end their tyranny and bring a peaceful restoration of democracy. On the same day, she also met with Deputy Assistant to the President and Coordinator for Indo-Pacific Affairs on the National Security Council, Mr. Kurt Campbell.
During the visit, H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung also had separate meetings with Senator Ben Cardin from Maryland and Mr. Paul Grove from Senate Appropriations Committee.
Myanmar diaspora are the strongest supporters and the largest source of income to Myanmar’s Spring Revolution. H.E. Daw Zin Mar Aung also met with Myanmar diaspora and ethnic groups during her visit to the United Kingdom and the United States of America. During these meetings, Union Minister appreciated their strong support and aspirations for democracy and federal union. These meetings are also a testimony of strong solidarity between the National Unity Government and the people of Myanmar.
